After working for two years helping a gentleman start a landscape supply company in Westlake, Bill Lattner came across a piece of property in Brunswick that needed a new lease on life. After Bill cleaned up the property and made a few improvements, in May 1992 it became the location for what would become Earth Plus, Inc. Bill would take a load of mulch and topsoil on consignment. With little more than a pickup truck and a shovel, he would deliver it to his customers by the yard or half yard, and unload it by hand. As he collected from each customer, he would pay his supplier for the previous load and pick up another. Before long, he was purchasing larger loads in advance and clearing the property of trees to make more room. Today Earth Plus, Inc. has grown to five trucks, four drivers, five office personal, and Bill working in the yard handling the loading. We visited with Bill recently, and listened as he provided this overview of Earth Plus' offerings;

Earth Plus, Inc. offers a complete line of outdoor landscape materials including top soil, mulch, decorative stone, patio stone, wall stone, boulders, storage barns, gazebos, timbers of all nature, and all types of common and decorative gravel. We carry everything you need to complete most landscaping projects with the exception of nursery plants. We sell a complete line of hand tools and all the supplies necessary for any size pond or outdoor water feature. Throughout the winter months we sell firewood, snow plow parts, bagged rock salt, and calcium chloride. We have small trucks, large trucks, and a boom truck that enable us to deliver everything we carry.

In addition to landscape materials, we will provide you with the knowledge and advice you need about any facet of your landscaping project. If you are looking for something we do not carry, we can tell you where to find it. If you are searching for an experienced, trustworthy installer, we will be happy to recommend one from the many qualified contractors we have come to know.

Customers often ask me how we got our name. I originally named my company Bill's Earth Plus. Our first signs were made from two 4X8 sheets of plywood that I sealed, painted, stenciled, and placed on the pole out front. Four years later I decided that having my name as part of the company name was being too vain, so I renamed the company Earth Plus, Inc. We had a graphic of a round earth, and as my wife and I were enlarging it to the proper size it began to elongate into the oval shape you now see. We cut out the right side of the graphic, added the company name, and that became our logo.

We try to do the best we can everyday, and there is always somebody here to help you during our operating hours. We are usually closed around the major holidays, such as Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years, but we are here the Fourth of July, Memorial Day, and Labor Day weekends to help you find the supplies you need.
