When Margaret Cole and her husband lost a child to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, they decided adoption was in their future. After spending a lot of money, time, and heartache in unsuccessful attempts to adopt, Margaret founded European Adoption Consultants, Inc. from her North Royalton home in 1991 to prevent other families from undergoing the same adoption disappointments she and her husband had experienced. As the company grew, Margaret began to add staff, and moved her agency first to a commercial building on West 130th, then to Bennett's Corners behind CVS Pharmacy, and finally to a 22,000 square foot facility on Alameda Drive in Strongsville. European Adoption Consultants, Inc. is presently one of the largest international adoption agencies in the world, and the top agency in Russia and Guatemala. We met with Margaret recently, and listened as she outlined the services European Adoption Consultants, Inc. provides;
European Adoption Consultants, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit adoption agency specializing in international adoptions for U.S. citizens. We offer a wide range of training and counseling services for those considering adopting internationally, and assist qualified families in completing their family. From initial consultations to determine if international adoption is a viable option through post adoption finalization, we work diligently to match adoptive families with orphans awaiting parents. Over the past fifteen years, we've helped over 5,800 orphaned children find new homes.
European Adoption Consultants, Inc. has grown to seventeen offices throughout the United States, and our Strongsville office employs a staff of over fifty people. We also maintain a presence in all of the countries with which we work. We strive to offer a personal touch to those considering international adoption. We help you find a child in a foreign country, complete the required paperwork properly, and are with you all the time when you're traveling to your new child's home country. We provide you with notebooks detailing each step of this complicated procedure, and we have an English speaking staff in the country to ensure that each step of the adoption procedure is handled correctly and evolves as smoothly as possible.
Our building is the result of the efforts of many family members. My daughter and her fiancé made the cubicles and stayed here all night painting them. We put the desks together ourselves, and laid our own carpet. Many members of our family work here, including my son Charlie, my daughter Tricia and her fiancé Rob, my daughter Karen and her fiancé Jeremy, and even little Lindsay who's from Russia and only thirteen years old works here as a receptionist sometimes. My daughter Lucy, a high school senior, is our proofreader, my mother Lucille is the editor of our newsletter, and my sister Pat travels around the country and to Guatemala helping people decide if international adoption is for them.
Our main goal is to find wonderful homes for orphans who are without parents in a foreign country. Our staff members feel really good about their jobs, and pull into the parking lot each morning with a smile that comes from knowing how much good they're doing for orphaned children.
